Runway work is equal parts posture, pacing, and presence. Designers and casting teams notice how you carry the clothes—not just how you look in them.
Posture and line
Keep shoulders relaxed, spine long, and chin level. Practice walking in a straight line with minimal hip sway unless the show brief calls for more movement. Arms should feel natural, not stiff.
Turns and pauses
Know your mark: where to slow for photographers, how long to hold at the end of the runway, and how to pivot cleanly. Rehearse in the shoes you will wear—heel height changes your center of gravity.
Confidence under pressure
Breathe steadily before stepping out. Pick a focal point past the audience to avoid scanning lights. If something goes wrong (a snag, a stumble), recover with calm—it reads as professionalism.
